09/9/09 To all new students
Training will start Monday, 28/9/09. All our sessions will be held in the Aberdeen Sports Village and Training times are displayed at the right. We recommend that new students wear loose fitting clothing, that allows for a lot of body movement, and also bring along a bottle of water. Training is directed at students of various levels of experience, from beginner to black belt. There are beginners in most classes, so no need to be shy. Our experienced black belt instructors teach a variety of skills and techniques, which help you to progress in your training. Apart from training, we also organise various nights out throughout the year, as well as movie nights, house parties and roadtrips. We participate in competitions and arrange special training seminars. Feel free to contact us for more information. Please note that you need to buy insurance from the Sports Union (available at the Fresher's Fayre) before you are able to train with any sports club. Proof of insurance is needed when entering the Sports Village. The insurance only needs to be bought once and is valid for all clubs for the entire year.

We will also be hosting a Fresher's competition at the Fayre, so make sure you check out our Fresher's stall. We will be announcing our new training times shortly, just waiting on confirmation of our times. I wish you all a good start to the new uni year!

23/02/09 - Update
Hi folks,
It's been a while since we have been posting news on our homepage. Things have been quiet in December and January as the Christmas holidays have been taking our time, directly followed by exams.
However the club has been active all the way through the exams. Earlier this month we attended the re-fresher's faire and from the amount of flyers we handed out and the people we spoke to, I am sure that the awareness of our club is greater than ever.
The club has always been very active and we like to arrange both social and training events for our members. So I would just like to take the opportunity to tell people what we are planning for the next couple of months.
Firstly the social events:
Already this Friday we are having a movie night in Kings College. We are going to watch some martial arts related movie and maybe even a martial arts documentary.
Then in three weeks time we are having another "Crazy Hat Cocktail Party". These have been so successful over the years that we just continued to have them. The idea is simple; just bring a crazy hat and some drinks. Then we’ll make cocktails all night, have fun and exchange hats!
Our annual road trip is also coming up. Every year the club arranges a road trip to some scenic location in Scotland. We combine this with some Taekwon-Do training and the results are some amazing pictures and a fun weekend. I can mention a few things we did on our previous roadtrips. Last year some of our members trained on the top of Ben Nevis. The year before that we were at a beautiful beach in Ullapool where we had a Taekwon-Do session. This year we are going to the Isle of Mull. I'm sure it will be a good weekend and we will have many chances to get some cool photos and lots of laughs!
And yes, we do also train! For example, next month we have invited one of our old student/instructor, Mr. Walker II, to hold a sparring seminar for our graded members. I am sure that this will be good training for all of us. Especially as the club is planning to join some competitions over the next months!
If you are wondering what else is happening just check out our events section, where you can see all the stuff we are planning to do!
Cheers,
Hallur

22-09-2008 - Welcome back
Hello everyone!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new and returning students to Aberdeen. The Fresher’s week has officially started and I hope that everyone is taking full advantage of all the great offers the pubs have for students.
The Aberdeen University Taekwon-Do club is always very active in the Fresher’s week and I’m sure you’ll see many of us wearing the easily recognisable Taekwon-Do hoodies.
The sports clubs faire is on Wednesday kicking off at 11am and closing at 3pm. As every year, we will have an awesome stall. If you are new to the university you should definitely come by. Have a chat with our members, grab a wonderful cookie baked by our finest members (we can do much more than impressive kicks!) and enter our “back fist strike” competition, where the prices are bottles of booze to the top 3 male and female contenders!
If these aren’t enough of reasons to visit our stall, we have an amazing offer up for grab. You can join our club for only £3 on the Fresher’s faire! That’s a whole year’s membership, which allows you to train, join our countless night outs and movie nights and of course our annual road trip.
And, even more, we are having a pub crawl on Friday. We’re meeting in the Bobbin at 6pm and having some food and an occasional pint before we head downtown. For more information about this visit us at the Fresher’s faire or check the forum.
I hope to see many new and old members at the stall and I’m looking forward meeting all of you!
I also have to apologize that our homepage is not quite finished, meaning the information section is not running yet. But feel free to contact me, or any other committee member if you have any questions about Taekwon-Do.
We are also very active on our forum which can be found by clicking on the forum link on the top of this page. Feel free to have a look and even ask some questions if you want.
Let us make this a great year for Taekwon-Do!
Cheers,
Hallur

Two great bits for you today: Grading results and Competition results.
In the Scottish Championships we had 5 competitors winning a total of 8 medals, so congratulations to:
Mr Piasek who won a silver for sparring and bronze for patterns, Mr Mamer for his silver in sparring, Hallur Simonsen who grabbed the gold for his special techniques and also a bronze for his patterns, and Michael Barthel who also snatched up a shiny gold from the sparring ring, a silver in special technique and a bronze in his patterns.
Aberdeen came 7th of all the schools in attendance. For such a small team, that is phenomenal!
Further congratulations to our graders:
Mr Senff for successfully passing his 2nd Degree pre-grading, Hallur Simonsen who has graded to 3rd Kup (blue belt with red tags) with an 'A' level pass, and Anna Cura who passed her 8th Kup (yellow belt) grading with an 'A' level pass.
Good job everybody!
Mr Walker
08-06-2008
Let me offer my congratulations to yesterday's graders, who, as always, have represented our school wonderfully. Well done to Martxel Izaguirre, who received an 'A' pass for his 3rd Kup; Mr Scheer for successfully passing his second pre-grading examination; and to Iris Krammer who has kept up our school's trend of again receiving the grading award, with her 'A' pass to 4th Kup.
Great job, all three of you!
Mr Walker

The last training session of the year is on this Thursday the 5th of June.
I hope you enjoyed the year as much as me! And remember to keep up training during the holidays. If you are in Aberdeen over summer there will be unofficial sessions in Seaton park every now and then. Just keep an eye on the forum. We are also able to train with Mr. Murdoch, however this is more expencive than our training. If you are interested in this option, just get in contact with me or any instructor.
Enjoy your summer holiday!
Cheers, Hallur Captain
26-05-2008
Just this week it has been banned to have BBQ's and open fires in Seaton Park. Therefore we have to move our BBQ to another location. It will be held on the south side of the mouth of the River Don. We had our last year's BBQ there, and that is a good venue as well. A map of the location can be seen here.

13-05-2008
There will be no Sunday training for the rest of the academic year as exams will be held in Butchart.
The training in Hillhead will continue until June.

Our club is chosen to be the best sports club of the year!
Reasons being that we have had a very good relationship with the sports union and the club has been running well for the whole year, even though we had the worst training circumstances for the first part of the year. We can thank the committee for getting this price, as they have been working very good together and made this a good year for the club. Thanks guys!
Hallur Simonsen
